Quantum information was once a niche domain focused on foundational questions. It has grown into a broad research area with industrial, academic, and national research efforts around the world, but many foundational questions remain. The special issue papers consider cryptography and error correction from the viewpoint of quantum information and computation.
Decoding algorithms are essential to fault-tolerant quantum-computing architectures. In this perspective we explore decoding algorithms for the surface code; a prototypical quantum low-density parity-check code that underlies many of the leading efforts to demonstrate scalable quantum computing. Central to our discussion is the minimum-weight perfect-matchin...
The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has supported independent academic research involving information processing tools since its founding in 2005.
